Sandy Liang brings coquette and balletcore sensibilities to the New York runway with her latest collection. While all these styles are characterised by an idealised version of femininity, in this case the designers offers us a more wearable take on the prom mini dresses and ballerina off duty looks, giving them a sense of severity more associated with the actual darkness of these aesthetics. More like Darren Aronofsky´s Nina losing her mind in between ballet rehearsals in Black Swan, or the sleepless night of a light academia college student in the middle of her final exams week.

This effect is accomplished through the inclusion of a darker and more earthy color palette, where the immaculate whites are replaced by beige and browns. And deeper burgundy, powdery rose and cherry red take over the expected playfulness of pastel pinks.

However, the references are heavily felt by preserving the dainty silhouettes associated to the brand, paired together with vintage styling and accesories like rosettes, face veils and capes. Details which infused the show with a certain eerie feeling of almost religious contemplation.

All in all, a treat for the Lana del Rey lovers. But isn’t everything I’ve ever posted about? I leave you with that.
