Are you a day-to-day fashionista but a special moment's procrastinator? Congrats! Me too. I call it a fashion protocol contrarian. There is something about the process to have a nice look on a day such as Christmas Eve or even a wedding that all of the sudden turn me into a minimalist. Yet, that only lasts until I get the realization that a big event is coming and my look sucks.
Now, with just a couple hours left before the start of 2023, we might not have enough time for shopping a brand new dress, but maybe some styling inspiration from the ghosts of bejeweled Christmas past (or some celebrity looks) can make up for our lack of preparation.
But let me tell you about my specific inspiration...

Back in November American singer (and queen of my heart), Taylor Swift did what she does best by breaking the internet once more with the release of her anticipated 10th studio album Midnights, which came with a 180º fashion shift from her last two eras Folklore and Evermore — which contributed to the rise of pandemic escapism styles which brought #cottagecore a to a peak in popularity— to what seemed to be the return of her big diva dresses, including a certain Oscar de la Renta custom gown with some daring transparencies and a whole lot of sparkly chains. The beginning of an era.
All this glitz and glamour was not merely the transformation of indie Taylor, but a clever Easter egg to the theme of one of her singles —Bejeweled— that came together with a clever retelling of the story of Cinderella, packed with shimmery outfits and even the surprise appearance of burlesque icon Dita Von Teese as an iteration of the classics fairytale fairy Godmother (here called the Fairy Goddess).
Now. While I have never been as much of a lover of glitter as Miss Swift, there is something about seeing both Dita and Taylor performing the iconic martini routine in those gorgeous shiny corsets that made me feel a certain type of way about starting the year in a glittery mood. Now, of course, I didn't really act on this desire soon enough and ended up just going with a white summer dress ( to which I added some flowers to channel some Lana energy.)
So I present you my last-minute shopping inspiration guide straight out of a Dita Von Teese burlesque fantasy. So save them for next year or for another event you have during the year, because these, much like cinderella did not make it on time for when the clock struck midnight. But they’re worth the browse. I promise.
